Welcome
to the Science Maths Academy (SMA) at Narangba Valley State High School, a
beacon of excellence in STEM education since its inception in 2012.
Designed
for students in years 7, 8, and 9, SMA has drawn talented individuals from
across the Moreton Bay region, offering a targeted approach to future-proofing
our young learners.
SMA Primary Program
The SMA Primary School Program immerses students in Science and Maths topics aligned with the Australian Curriculum, extending beyond regular classroom content to foster high levels of applied and design thinking. With access to specialized equipment and engaging projects, students are challenged to develop their higher-order thinking skills, laying a strong foundation for academic success.
Assessment occurs each term, with comprehensive report cards provided at the end of each semester, along with opportunities for parent-teacher interviews.
Applications for the 2027 program will open shortly.
SMA Secondary Program
- For the Year 7 program, please complete an enrolment form and tick the box indicating Programs of Excellence - Science Maths Academy. There will be further information emailed to you in due course.
- The year 8 and year 9 Secondary SMA programs for 2027 are currently full. You are welcome to register your interest for this and be placed on a waiting list, should a position arise.
The following information applies to interest in both the year 8 and year 9 programs for 2026.
For current NVSHS students to apply for this program, please email the Secondary SMA directly (Secondary-SMA@narangbavalleyshs.eq.edu.au ) for application information.
For non-current NVSHS students applying for the SMA, please go through the NVSHS Enrolments page, similarly to the year 7 process.

In the SMA Secondary School Program, students delve deeper into Science, Maths, and STEM courses, with three lessons per week dedicated to each subject. Aligned with the Australian Curriculum, this program offers enhanced learning experiences, preparing students for the challenges of higher education and beyond. Through strategic partnerships with universities and industries, SMA provides unique opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with real-world applications, including excursions, camps, competitions, and guest speakers. Participation in SMA activities, including excursions, competitions, and camps, is an integral part of the enrichment process, ensuring students are well-equipped for future success.
