Music is an important part of the school culture at NVSHS and there is a proud tradition of excellence within the Instrumental Music (IM) Program.
The IM Program provides opportunity to learn a musical instrument in a quality music program under the direction of qualified, specialist staff. Students are allocated lesson groups and ensembles based on their current performance ability. As students improve their skill level they may be re-evaluated and move to a more advanced lesson group and/or large ensemble.
Within this program, students must participate in:
- Weekly lessons on their chosen instruments with specialist teachers
- Weekly rehearsal with one or more ensembles
- School and community performances
At NVSHS, students also can audition for the Music Program of Excellence (Years 1-9) and Music Extension (Year 12). Here they are given opportunities to extend and refine their performance skills and musicality beyond that of a regular classroom program.
